Buttered Matcha late



I am a fan of morning beverages. Often times I don't have a solid breakfast, I opt for a warm drink or smoothy instead. I love getting my super foods in the morning, this usually includes collagen/gelatin, colostrum/whey protein, anti-oxidants from berries or matcha, turmeric, vanilla, all sorts of things. One of my favorite ways to do this has been green tea lates. Mm-mm-mm! They are so good! But I have a little twist to mine, it has less matcha than normal and has added ghee and gelatin. When I have it I like to use collagen and colostrum and whey. I like Bulletproofs whey protein because it already has whey and MCT in it, which is awesome! I only use 3/8 teaspoon of matcha instead of the normal full tbsp. I just cant handle more than 3/8 tsp, its to overwhelming and with less I can taste the vanilla better. This is an easy bulletproofable recipe that can be a great alternative for when you dont want coffee.


I first start off with a cup of milk I like raw goats milk (you can use coconut to be bulletproof) about 2/3 full that I heat over medium on the stove.



Then I add in about a Tbsp of ghee. Butter can be substituted or omitted, but the ghee adds such an incredible caramel type of flavor that tastes sooooo good with the matcha. 



Then I add 3/8 tsp of matcha to my cup along with a Tbsp of gelatin, and I mix a couple Tbsp of hot water (but not to hot otherwise the matcha will be bitter. About 170, or just short of boiling) with that. If you are using collagen, just add the tea and water to the blender. I do this just because its easier to mix the gelatin. Collagen dissolves better and wont need the extra mixing step.


 Now I start adding things to the blender. First I do about 2 Tsp of xylitol or erithratol, sometimes I'll do honey. Then I add in a heavy pinch of vanilla bean powder an a smidgen of Himalayan salt.



Then I add in the tea, and the ghee/milk mixture. I like to add the milk to the cup first to rinse it out.




Now it will look weird, like this. Who would want to drink ghee like this? Not me! Thus the blender. 
A stick immersion blender works well for this, I'm using a high powered upright/canister blender. This is also what makes it foamy. If you are not using ghee or gelatin, feel free to blend the milk separately in the blender, or shaken up in a mason jar, or by using a frothier f you so desire. 



Soon it will become frothy ans such a beautiful green color. 

 


Pour and enjoy!



Ingreedients
  • 3/8 tsp Matcha (high quality ones will be a rich, vibrant green)
  • 1 Tbsp gelatin or collagen (grass fed)
  • 2 Tbsp hot water (about 170 degrees or just short of boiling so the tea isn't bitter)
  • 3/4 mug full of milk. Use coconut milk to make this bulletproof.
  • 1 Tbsp ghee, butter can be substituted but wont be as delicious. MCT or brain octain oil are good add ins too.
  • Heavy pinch of vanilla powder
  • 1-3 tsp non gmo erythratol or hardwood xylitol. Optional 1 tsp honey instead. 
  • Scant pinch of Himalayan salt, optional.
Mix the matcha, gelatin and hot water together making sure the gelatin is fully dissolved. Meanwhile, heat the milk and ghee on the stove until the ghee is almost melted. mix everything in the blender and blend, baby, blend! Enjoy.
