DIY Green Tea and Rose Bath Jellies

For some reason I had thought that bath jellies made from tea was already a thing, but when I went to look for a recipe I couldn't find a single one! All I could find was diy lush shower jellies, which is great but not at all what I wanted. So I figured that I'd make some strong tea, mix it with some gelatin and see if it would work well in my bath. Any you know what? It was perfect! To watch the video click the video below or go directly to my youtube link HERE.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pint of boiling water
  • 1-2 tea bags
  • 1-2 Tbsp of grass-fed gelatin
  • 2 Tbsp of Rosewater

Steep the tea for about 10 minutes to make it nice and strong. Whisk the gelatin with some hot water to bloom the gelatin. Whisk in the tea make sure its still at least warm. Then mix in the rosewater and poor into your mold. Refrigerate for a couple of hours or until set. Take out of the molds and use in a nice warm bath. Refrigerate the extra.

I use about 1/3 to 1/2 of the recipe in my bath and I like to put it in when the water is running with the hotter water so that it dissolves more effectively.

Pink Grapefruit Bath Salts DIY

This recipe is really nice as a base for any kind of bath salt variations that you might want to do, but today I am keeping things simple with this grapefruit version.

This bath salt looks so pretty in a nice jar on my shelf in my bathroom and it makes me want to use it more because I just love how it looks. This recipe has very few ingredients so it is nice for people that worry about allergies especially if you like to give your diy's as gifts. The only thing to think about it the kinds of oils that you use. I'm using grapefruit oil, obviously, because I love the smell. Grapefruit oil is also relatively inexpensive, and with it being the main oil in this recipe that helps keep the cost of any more expensive oils that you might want to use down. Such as, I usually like to add chamomile in this because it is so relaxing, but since the main smell comes from grapefruit I only use a little bit of the chamomile. Alrighty, lets get to it! I have a video that goes along with this diy, watch it below or use THIS LINK to watch it on youtube.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Epsom salt
  • 1/2 - 1 cup Himalayan salt
  • 20 drops grapefruit oil
  • 3-10 drops additional oil if desired, such as lavender, chamomile, rose geranium, etc.
Directions

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and put in a pretty container, or an ugly container.
Store with the lid on tight so that it stays dry, and keep away from direct light to preserve the oils the best.

Bubbling Bath Salts

This DIY like most of my DIY's is extremely easy, however this one only requires TWO ingredients! How cool is that?! Like my last few posts this one has a video too! Click HERE to go directly to that video on youtube, or watch it below.

Materials:

  • Mixing bowl
  • 1 cup measuring cup
  • 1/3 cup measuring cup
  • mixing spoon
  • sheet pan

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups Epsom salts
  • 1/3 cup body wash

Mix everything together then spread evenly on a sheet pan and let air dry for 24 hours. I like to let it dry for up to 48 hours, and I like to stir and re-spread it every 12 hours but that isn't necessary.

Store in an airtight container, mix 1/4 to 1/2 cup of salts with running water for your bath.

Wonderful Wintergreen Bath Bombs

Bath bombs are really fun use but they can be a bit of a pain to make. My preferred way of making them is without the water and just putting it in a container to sprinkle it in. For gifts you can put it in a sachet with enough for a single use. Like bath packets that you would buy at the store. I like to mix up bath bombs with ingredients that  I want mixed into my bath that can clump up, such as goats milk powder, oat flour, etc. The reaction helps mix in ingredients when you have a cooler bath also. When you use a powdered color it is helpful to be able to mix it in with the reaction as well. If you don't want to bother with the citric acid, you can use cream of tartar, or even baking powder in place of the baking soda/citric acid combo will work. But if you want to go really crazy you could skip the acid in the bomb and just use the baking soda then when you go to put it in the bath add in apple cider vinegar to create the reaction. That would make it really easy to make the bath bomb but you would need to add them both at the beginning of the bath for it to incorporate all the way.  Don't forget to watch the video below or you can go to it on youtube HERE.
I have tried to make Bath bombs with melted coconut oil before, and it does help them to stay together but it also doesn't mix into the bath quite as well but if your water is really warm/hot then you could probably get away with it just make sure your area that your mixing everything together is nice and warm otherwise the coconut oil will harden before you get everything mixed in.

Ingredients
1/4 cup baking soda
1/4 cup citric acid
3 1/2 Tbsp Epsom salt
1/4 - 1/2 tsp mineral pigment
2 Tbsp Almond oil
5 Drops wintergreen oil
5 drops of vanilla
Spray bottle of water (optional)

Mix together the dry ingredients with a whisk you could sift the baking soda beforehand to get out all the clumps. Add in the oils. Spread out the mixture and mist with water, mix, repeat until it comes together when squeezed. Press firmly into a mold and turn it out.

Or skip the water and place mixture in a clean container and sprinkle a couple of tablespoons into a bath.

I post every week so if you don't want to miss a post subscribe via email in the subscription box on the side.

Vanilla Orange perfume diy

This is such an easy perfume, that lasts all day with a lingering scent of vanilla, orange, rose and subtle notes of tree resins to round out the sweetness. The base is a mixture of infused vodka. You can make this whole perfume by simply infusing vodka with vanilla, orange rinds, rose petals, and tree resins, or you can use a base of vodka and add in extracts and oils, or just oils. What I did this time was mix together vanilla extract (homemade) with vodka (so that its no to strong) and added in orange oil, rose water concentrate, cedarwood oil, and elemi oil (similar to frankincense and myrrh).
If you want to make a body splash mix together equal parts rosewater or orange blossom water (or a combination of the two) and vegetable glycerin. I prefer the extract and oil recipe near the bottom. It is easiest for me since I always have the ingredients on hand.

All oil perfume
container for solid or liquid oil perfume. the liquid one should be an old essential oil bottle, a dropper bottle, or roll on.
1 oz of an oil, mango butter for solid, or jojoba, almond or another neutral oil.
5 drops of orange oil
5 drops of vanilla oil
4 drops of rose oil
1 drop of cedarwood
1 drop of elemi (or frankincense or myrrh)

All extract perfume.
This can be done three ways. Either making all the extracts separate and putting them together later, or mixing all the ingredients into one extract and having them saturate the vodka together. The third way is by mixing pre-made extracts with vodka, but you will still need to use a couple of oils.

If you are going to make the extracts separately follow how to do that here.
The ratio will need to be
5 parts vanilla (if making yourself use vanilla beans cut in half lengthwise)
5 parts orange (if making yourself use orange rind)
2 parts rose (making yourself use rose petals)
1 part cedarwood needles
1 part tree resin. (use a resin such as myrrh or frankincense)
Vodka to cover and vodka to dilute once you've made your extracts.

Mixing them before you put it into the bottle will make it easier to tell the ratios. Add in the vodka and let sit until the scent is to your desired strength. If it gets to dark be careful not to get it on your clothes.
If you make your extracts separate you will need to mix them together in about 4 weeks.
You can also make any of these extracts and mix them with essential oils.

Extract and essential oil perfume.
25 ml bottle
15 ml vodka
9 ml vanilla extract
7 drops of orange oil
4 drops rose oil or 10 drops rosewater concentrate
1 drop cedarwood oil
1 drop elemi, frankences, or myrrh

Mix into a 25 ml spray bottle.

Body splash
Using this recipe  for rosewater glycerin body splash, make your base. You can use all rosewater in this recipe or orange water and use rose oil, or do half and half. You may need to add in more orange oil no matter what depending on your preference.
Depending on what water you use, use the ratios above as a guideline.

Some other oils that can be nice to add are, fennel, tangerine, and geranium.

I sure do hope this makes sense. If you need more help feel free to comment below.

Diy Gelatin hair gel

I like to use this hair gel to keep my hair in place when I put it up or in a braid. It is so easy to make, and costs only pennies.

1/4 - 1/2 tsp of gelatin mixed with 1/2 cup of water.
Let it heat up for a couple minutes in a sauce pan until the gelatin has dissolved. Pour into a container, and chill in the refrigerator until set.
Mix it up with a fork to make it easier to use. Keep in the refrigerator. Will last a week or two.

Additional options; use rose, or orange blossom water in place of some or all of the water. Add in some vanilla extract, or essential oils for sent.

PH Balanced Shampoo

I've been using this shampoo recipe for a couple weeks now, it has transformed my hair for the better. It is so soft and manageable and I love it!

This diy is so easy to do, I use yogurt, which makes this a little more acidic, more like a 4 on the ph scale, where as using coconut milk will make it perfectly balanced with your hair at a 4.5. Coconut milk has a ph of 7, aloe vera a ph of 3, and honey can be anywhere from a 4 to a 6. Raw milk can be substituted, as well as any other non dairy milk. The raw milk and yogurt have probiotics that I find help keep my scalp happy.

Click Here for the original diy from thankyourbody.com

If it's not accid it will make your hair softer. If it is to soft, perhaps try more coconut milk and less aloe vera and don't use yogurt or maybe just a little bit. You could also use c just coconut milk and no yogut and add in a probiotic supliment if you still want some extra bacteria. Apple cider vinegar rinses will also add probiotics, keeping away dandruff, eczema, etc.

I use 1 par honey, 2 parts yogurt (or 2 parts milk), and 3 parts aloe vera. I mix it in an applicator bottle, and simply shampoo my hair with it. It will not suds. I also like to clean my face with it. Currently I need to wash my hair about 2 to 3 times a week with this shampoo, but that might change with the seasons.

I usually post recipes, beauty DIY's and health tips once or twice a week so if you want more then subscribe over on the side bar. :)

The "No Poo" Method

I decided to do a series of videos on Health and DIY beauty. The first one is on Washing your hair without shampoo, thus the "No Poo" method. Instead by using Baking Soda your hair isn't stripped of it's natural oils.   Conventional shampoos strip the hair of it's natural oils causing your scalp to overproduce oils to compensate  leaving you with oily hair the next day. With the "No Poo" method the baking soda gets rid of all of the build up, but leaves the natural oils to keep your hair healthy, but not oily. Apple Cider Vinegar is sprayed on the ends of the hair as a conditioner, and it works very, very well! I know is seams odd and foreign  but It works really well for all hair types, and it is so much cheaper than shampoo.

Goat milk bath fizzies

These are super easy and fun to make. Your skin will be so soft and happy after using this! If you cant get citric acid, you can always just make this as a milk bath and use it all at once.  All you need is Powdered Milk (cornstarch can be substituted), Baking Soda, Citric Acid (this is what makes it fizz), Olive Oil, Dried Lavender Flowers, Lavender essential Oil, and a Silicone Mold. You can make this without the mold, and just have a fizzy milk bath. Also you can leave out the lavender, or use other oils and flowers.

Mix the dry ingredients first, and make sure their isn't too many clumps. I used a for to do this, but a whisk will work well also.

Then add in the Lavender.

Drizzle in the olive oil, starting with 1 tbsp, adding more until the mixture just comes together.

Take some of the mixture and pinch between your fingers. If it sticks together but isn't soaked with oil, then you've got it!

When putting the mixture in your mold, pinch it together in between your fingers first, then gently press into the molds. If you press it in to hard then the mixture could stick and you wont get perfect shapes.

Turn the mold over and press the middle gently and they should pop out easily.

They fizz really well. You should only need a few for a whole bath. About 3-4 tbsp. But go ahead and use more if you would like.

  • 1/4 Cup of Baking Soda
  • 1/4 Cup of Citric Acid (I get this in the baking aisle at my grocery store, but you might find it with the sprouting items at your local grocery store.)
  • 3 and 1/2 Tbsp of Goat Mil Powder (you can substitute cornstarch for this but it wont be as nourishing)
  • 1 Tbsp of Dried Lavender
  • 5 drops of lavender oil
  • 1 Tbsp to 1/4 cup of Olive Oil (I usually use 1/8 cup or 2 Tbsp)
Keep in a cool dry place. If you aren't going to use it up vary soon then you may want to keep it in the refrigerator.
